Sport UTV Side x Sides are the fastest growing segment in the offroad industry. The introduction of vehicles like the Can-Am Commander is the main driving force for this segment of the market. Far from the utility style UTV's that dominated the market for over 20 years, the Can-Am Commander is all about fun. You can use the Commander for hauling cargo up to 600 lbs but it's better equipped to quickly soak up miles of tough trails.
The Base Model Commander is one of the smoothest riding UTV's on the market and comes with two power-plant options, an 800cc or the 1000cc. The 800 has an impressive 71 horse power while the 1000 has a massive 82 horsepower. The Commander is driven by a CVT transmission, is equipped with Hi/Lo selectable gearing, has selectable 2wd/4wd, and has a Visco-Loc front differential. To get the power to the ground the Commander has an Anti-Dive Double A-Arm Front Suspension and (TTI) Torsional Trailing Arm Independent Rear Suspension. The Stock 27" Carlisle Black Rocks tires mounted on 12" black steel wheels help the Commander achieve it's class leading 11" of ground clearance. The Can-Am Commanders are packed full of features like the 625 watt magneto to power additional accessories like a winch, additional lighting, or a rocking stereo. Can-Am also installed winch prewiring to make the addition of a winch quick and painless. Some other unique feature of the Commander is the Dual Layer cargo box for additional storage and the (D.E.S.S.) Digitally encoded Security System to keep your ride safe and secure.
To help make Commander more manageable on tight trails Can-Am created Commander DPS. The Commander DPS has all the features found on the base model with the addition of Dynamic Power Steering. Instead of adding a standard power-steering set up Can-Am installed a Dynamic unit that increases or decreases power assistance based on the vehicles speed. This allows the power-steering to provide maximum assistance at slow speed to makes the vehicle more maneuverable in tight spots and reduces assistance as the vehicles speed increases to provide consistent feedback. The Commander DPS has 14" inch cast wheels instead of the baisc steel ones, and come stock with aggressive Maxxis Bighorn 27" tires that increase the traction and bling factor.
For Customers wanting more bells and whistles on their ATV's Side x Side Can-Am created XT or (Extreme Terrain) Line. Depending on the vehicle the "XT" designation may include additional body protection, Larger diameter alloy wheels, More aggressive tires, and additional accessories or custom touches not found on the base models. For the 2014 Commander XT, Can-Am has stepped up their game and created one of the most capable and feature filled Side x Sides to hit the market .
The 2014 Can-Am Commander XT comes from the factory with the all new Tri-Mode Dynamic power steering making it possible for the rider to tailor the feed back to their individual riding style and terrain. The Commander XT comes with a Heavy-Duty Front Bumper and Warn 4000lb Winch complete with fairlead roller, wired remote, and integrated winch remote storage. The Commander "XT" also had the choice of Pure Magnesium, Metallic, or Industry Exclusive Next Gen-1 Vista Camo body work and a custom steering wheel with Brushed Aluminum center. The Commander XT also includes rugged bed rails and additional mudguard not found on the base model.
Ok, Enough playing around; it's time for the rundown on this big dog. When Can-Am created the Commander XT-P, all the rules were tossed out the window and when the dust settled we were left with one of the most capable and aggressive Side x Sides the offroad world has ever seen. Packing all the features found on the Commander XT version it's hard to imagine things getting any better, but they do! Can-Am added a front sway bar to increase stability at high speed which is very important on this beast. The alloy wheels are replaced with 12" Aluminum Bead Lock Wheels so you can run lower air pressure for additional traction without the fear of popping the tire off the bead. The Commander XT-P has all the body protection found on the XT version with the addition of Rock Sliders to keep everything safe and protected while tackling serious obstacles. And the thing that really sets the Commander XT-P apart from the competition is the FOX Podium X Performance RC2.0 HPG
The Can-Am Commander Max and Can-Am Commander XT are also offered in the Max 4 seater versions. The Max versions have all the features found on the two seat versions with room for two additional passangers.
