The Yamaha Rhino was a totally new concept when it was released in 2004 and kicked off the fastest growing segment in offroad vehicles. The Rhino had a great run but Yamaha went back to the drawing board to shake things up again. For 2014 they released the all new Yamaha Viking that is a true 3 seater UTV. What make the Viking different it 3 individual seats complete with 3 point harnesses, padded head rests, and hand holds making it comfortable and safe for each of the passengers. Most of the competitions UTV's have bench seats and a lap belt for the middle passenger.
The Viking has a liquid-cooled 686cc 4-stroke power-plant the has great low end power that is perfect for work or play. The Viking has the time tested Ultramatic CVT trans complete with dual-range Hi-Lo gearing and industry leading engine braking. Like all the other atv's and utv's with the Ultramatic's centrifugal clutch keeps belt under constant tension to reduce wear and the sprag clutch engages to provide downhill breaking. Yamaha also installed the On-Command 3-position 4-Wheel Drive system that allows the driver to select from 2 Wheel Drive, 4 Wheel Drive Limited-Slip, or 4 Wheel Drive Fully Locked.
Yamaha replaced the plastic cargo-box with steel to to support the increased 600 lbs. cargo capacity. They installed a 2 inch receiver style hitch that provides the Viking with a 1500 lbs. towing capacity.
The Viking has 11.8 inches of ground clearance and a steel skid plate that provides excellent protection out on the trail. The Viking is available with Yamaha's Electric Power Steering that provide excellent feedback and makes negotiating tight trails much easier. Yamaha installed a set of roto-molded doors to keep all the passengers safe for when the trail gets rough.
