Polaris has been setting trends in the power sports game since the mid-50's. They started out manufacturing snowmobiles but Polaris now has their hand in almost every segment of motorized fun. Polaris spent years improving and perfecting the drive system for their popular snowmobiles. In 1985 Polaris entered the offroad market with their first ATV's the 3 wheeled Scrambler and 4 wheeled Trail Boss that utilized the time proven Polaris Automatic Drive system from the Snowmobile market. During the early 90's Kawasaki released the Mule which was received with rave reviews. Polaris had Utility style ATV's with racks but nothing they offered could compete with the towing and cargo capacity of the Mule.
In the mid 90's Polaris introduced the Ranger 6X6, their answer to the popular Kawasaki Mule. The Six wheel drive concept provided excellent traction and towing capabilities but it severely limited the first Ranger's maneuverability. Even though the 6x6 Ranger was capable of hauling and towing more weight that its Kawasaki conterpart, it never received the same popularity.
In 2000 Polaris went back to the drawing board to create a 4 wheeled version of the Ranger. Polaris has had a cult like following since the first 4x4 Ranger rolled out of the Iowa plant in 2000. The success of the Ranger line-up is not surprising since the Side x Side market is the fastest growing segment in the offroad industry.
The Polaris Ranger has been offered in a few variations since it was introduced. With engines ranging from 500cc to the current 900 cc behemoth there's a Ranger to suit almost every task and rider.
The Ranger 500, now considered a mid-size SXS, was one of the first version in the Polaris Ranger series remains a popular choice for farmers, ranchers, and hunters.
The smaller frame design allows the mid-size Ranger to fit through narrow trails and fence opening where the full-size Ranger can't fit. The geometry of the Mid-size Ranger has continued to be a popular choice and Polaris has expanded the power-plant and drive train options so there's a mid-size Ranger for every size job.The mid-size Rangers are now offered with the option of a 400 with 500lbs. cargo capacity, 570 1000 lbs. cargo capacity, 800cc 1250 cargo capacity, and the eco-friendly EV Electric Ranger with 1000 lbs. cargo capacity.
If the mid-size Ranger is to small for you Polaris offers a full-size Ranger with multiple engine options to get the job done. You can choose from the powerful 800, Torquey Diesel, or the ground-pounding 900 XP.
The 2014 Polaris Ranger 900 XP is the hardest working Side x Side on the market. With the power of the new 60 hp ProStar 900 engine the new Ranger 900 has the highest torque and towing capacity in it's class. The engine is located under the rear box to provide a quieter more comfortable ride. Driver-side fuel access makes fueling the Ranger easier than previous models. Easy access to engine oil check and fill make maintenance easy. Polaris installed grease fittings on most of the moving parts to increase the life of bearing and bushings making the new Ranger very dependable and durable.
When shopping for your next Side x Side check out the Polaris Ranger line up, with Mid-Size and Full-Size Rangers from 400-900cc Polaris has a Ranger the right size for every job.
